The management of Nigeria league champions Rangers International FC, led by its chairman Amobi Ezeaku, has inaugurated a nine-man committee to help revamp the Rangers Academicals. The committee will be chaired by Barrister Joe Onyeabor, with Ugwu Francis serving as the scribe.
The inauguration took place at the club’s corporate office in Enugu and includes former club legends such as Okechukwu Uchebo, Ogechukwu Ileagu, John Nnam, Nnamdi Anyasodo, Eze Nonso, Frankie Omokhua, and Boniface Onovo, who represents the Ministry of Youth and Sports as members.
The General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of Rangers, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, urged the committee to visit all secondary schools in the state, the South-East region, and even the South-South region to identify and nurture budding football talents for the future of the club.
In his opening remarks, the Rangers boss thanked the committee members for accepting to serve the club in their various capacities.
“I am glad that you have accepted this call to serve the club. I thank you all for honoring the club’s invitation. The purpose of this meeting is to announce the return of the Rangers Academicals. Just as it was in the early days of the club when footballers came from their schools to defend the club’s badge, so we desire for now and the future of this great club. Part of our vision and mission for the club is to restore the full glory of Rangers and make it a truly professional and international club.”
He further stated, “The inauguration of the committee officially starts the club’s drive to recruit young secondary school footballers from Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Delta, and beyond. As soon as the committee’s roadmap is available, we will pool resources together for this cause. The club believes that returning to our roots will help us stay on the right path.”
The Chairman of the committee, Barrister Onyeabor, responded, “This is a great platform that the management of Rangers has created for us, members of the Rangers Academicals Committee, to showcase our passion and love for the club. We will give our best to ensure that this dream is realized. With the crème de la crème of the game, both within and outside the country, we are confident in our ability to restore the glory days of academic football in the club.”
The Director of Organizing in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Bony Onovo, who stood in for the commissioner, Lloyd Ekweremadu, remarked, “The ministry has always supported the club’s lofty ideals, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that the project achieves its intended goals.”
