Everton has strongly condemned the death threats made towards James Tarkowski and his family following his tackle on Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister during Wednesday's Merseyside derby at Anfield.
Tarkowski was booked for the challenge, but the Premier League's refereeing body later determined that he should have been sent off for the foul. Everton responded by labeling such behavior as unacceptable and stressing that it has no place in football or society.
In a statement, the club emphasized its support for Tarkowski and his family, offering to work with social media platforms and assist the police in investigating the threats. Everton reiterated its firm stance against any form of abuse or intimidation directed at players, staff, or their families, both online and offline.
Tarkowski’s wife, Samantha, also shared her outrage on social media, calling the abuse "beyond disgusting" and highlighting the personal toll the vile comments had taken on their family.
Tarkowski, who had a conversation with Mac Allister at the end of the match, explained that the Argentine had accepted his apology for the tackle.
The defender acknowledged that it was an unfortunate challenge, explaining that he had expected a 50-50 challenge but misjudged the situation when Mac Allister pulled out, leading to the high contact. He expressed regret over the incident, which had been misunderstood by some as malicious, but assured that the apology was accepted by the Liverpool player.
