Leverkusen's Boniface attends clash between two former clubs

Victor Boniface attended the UEFA Europa League match between two of his former clubs, Union Saint-Gilloise and FK Bodø/Glimt, at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels on Thursday evening. His presence highlighted his connection to both teams, making the match even more significant for him.


Boniface's journey began at Bodø/Glimt, where he played from 2019 to 2022 after transferring from Real Sapphire. During his time in Norway, he faced significant challenges, including a serious injury in his first season. Despite these setbacks, he managed to contribute greatly to the team, appearing in 66 matches and scoring 23 goals, along with providing eight assists.


In the summer of 2022, Boniface moved to Union Saint-Gilloise for a season, where he continued to shine. He made an impressive impact, scoring 17 goals and providing 12 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions. His successful stint at the Belgian club eventually led him to Bayer Leverkusen the following summer.


While at Bayer Leverkusen, Boniface excelled in the UEFA Europa League during the 2022/2023 season, where he emerged as a top scorer with six goals, sharing the honor with Marcus Rashford. His ability to perform in high-stakes matches showcased his talent on a larger stage.


With Bayer Leverkusen not scheduled to play until Saturday, Boniface seized the opportunity to watch his former clubs face off. This break allowed him to reflect on his time with both teams and the bonds he formed during his earlier career.


Before the match, Union Saint-Gilloise media inquired about which team Boniface was supporting. However, the young striker chose to remain impartial, avoiding any favoritism in a clash between his past affiliations. His neutral stance underscored his respect for both clubs.


Recently, Boniface celebrated another milestone by scoring his first Champions League goal, netting the decisive goal in Bayer Leverkusen's 1-0 victory over AC Milan at the BayArena. This achievement marked a significant step in his burgeoning career, further solidifying his status as a key player for his current club.
