Awka, the capital city of Anambra State, will experience another round of the 'Festival of Football' starting from July 13 as no fewer than 15 clubs are ready to jostle for promotion in the 2024 NLO 2 Playoffs.

Reports indicate that the Anambra State centre is gradually turning into the 'Mecca of Football' in the South East, courtesy of the State FA headed by former Super Eagles defender, Chikelue Iloenyosi.

The playoffs will mark the second time in quick succession that Awka City Stadium has been the action spot for the fourth-tier domestic league football showpiece.

Three teams, Ozalla Football Academy, Hopeland Football Academy, and Rangels, are hoisting the Anambra State flag in the playoffs.

Last year, 2023, Ozalla FA missed the promotion cut by a hair's breadth, following a 1-0 defeat by Ikukuoma FC in the final match.

This time, it will be a new beginning for the Ikenna Osueke charges despite Imo dominating the 15-team contest with as many as nine teams.

Enugu State has one team, while Abia and Ebonyi each have one team.

It's all credit to the state FA, which has continued to attract big-time football to the state to ensure that the astroturf at Awka City Stadium does not lie fallow but is put to constant use.

Moreover, such competitions have played a role in reawakening football consciousness among the youth of the state, who now take a more active part in the game, thereby shunning all forms of criminality and other vices.
