The National Sports Commission (NSC) has congratulated the Super Eagles B team on their qualification for the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) following a resounding 3-1 victory over the Black Galaxies of Ghana at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, who witnessed the thrilling encounter, expressed his admiration for the team's outstanding performance. Speaking shortly after the match, Olopade said, "This victory is a testament to the talents we have as a nation, both at home and abroad."
"We are committed to supporting the team and ensuring they are adequately prepared to not only compete but excel at CHAN 2025. This is a stepping stone to greater achievements, and we aim to use this momentum to build a thriving sports ecosystem that will inspire future generations."
The Super Eagles B got off to a flying start with Ismaila Sodiq opening the scoring in the 18th minute following a superb pass through the middle. Just three minutes later, Nduka Junior doubled the lead with a clinical finish. Saviour Isaac capped off a remarkable first-half performance by adding a third in the 25th minute.
Despite Ghana's spirited efforts in the second half, including a consolation goal from Stephen Amenkona in the 71st minute, the Nigerian side held firm to secure a 3-1 aggregate victory and their spot in the CHAN tournament.
The 2025 CHAN tournament, which exclusively features players competing in Africa, will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from February 1 to 28.
Olopade said that with this victory, Nigeria's Super Eagles B are wrapping up the 2024 sporting year on a high and also showcased their potential to compete at the highest level in the forthcoming tournament.
