Zambian women's coach, Bruce Mwafa faces allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate relationships

Posted : 10 July 2023

Allegations of severe sexual harassment have surfaced against the coach of Zambia's women's national team, who recently qualified for the World Cup. Players on the team have accused the coach, Bruce Mwafa, of engaging in inappropriate relationships with multiple players. The Football Association (FA) is aware of these allegations but has been accused of turning a blind eye.

A senior national team player spoke anonymously to The Guardian, revealing that it is common for the coach to engage in relationships with players and that their consent is expected.

Team officials have also claimed that players have been threatened to keep silent about the situation. The FA is accused of prioritizing the team's success and reputation over addressing these serious issues.

The FA's CEO has stated that while there have been no official complaints, they are taking the allegations seriously and have launched an investigation.

They are cooperating with the Zambian police to address the matter and have requested FIFA's involvement to ensure impartiality. FIFA has confirmed that an investigation is underway but cannot provide further details at this time.
