U.S. Open has increased its prize money to $20 million

The U.S. Open has increased its prize money to $20 million, making it the highest among the major golf championships and on par with the elevated events of the PGA Tour.
 
This represents a $2.5 million increase from the previous year and is double the amount from 2016.

The winner of this year's U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club will receive $3.6 million, compared to the $3.15 million won by Matt Fitzpatrick in the previous edition.
 
Prize money has become a significant focus in recent years, with other tournaments and tours also increasing their purses.

The PGA Tour responded with $20 million purses at ten tournaments, including $25 million for The Players Championship.
