Ugandan athlete Benjamin Kiplagat, a 34-year-old former Kenyan national representing Uganda in the 3,000m steeplechase, was discovered dead in Eldoret, Kenya, with reports indicating he had been murdered. Police found his body in a car with a deep knife wound to his neck, suggesting he was stabbed.
Kiplagat, who had an illustrious 18-year running career, had recently been training in Eldoret before heading to Uganda for athletic competitions, marking another tragic incident following the October 2021 killing of Kenyan distance running star Agnes Tirop in the same region.
