Paralympic Triathlon Events Delayed 24 Hours Due to Seine Water Quality Issues
Posted : 01 September 2024
The Paralympic sprint events at the Paris Games are set to begin on Sunday, but the triathlon competitions have been delayed by 24 hours due to poor water quality in the River Seine.
Heavy rainfall on Saturday has led to increased pollution, prompting organisers and World Triathlon to reschedule the 11 triathlon races to September 2.
The water quality issue also affected earlier events this summer, with several practice sessions cancelled due to high pollution levels.
Despite a substantial investment in upgrading the sewerage and water treatment systems, concerns about pollution in the Seine persist.
