Lionel Messi's World Cup-worn shirts fetch $7.8 million at Sotheby's auction

Lionel Messi's iconic journey during Argentina's historic 2022 World Cup campaign reached a remarkable milestone as six of his match-worn shirts, notably from the final victory over France, fetched a total of $7.8 million at an auction held by Sotheby's New York.

 
The shirts, covering the first half of six pivotal matches in Qatar, were offered by tech startup AC Momento and secured the impressive sum through three winning bids from an anonymous buyer.
 
 
The auction, which took place from November 30 to December 14, featured shirts worn during these historic encounters, with a portion of the proceeds dedicated to the UNICAS Project, supporting children with rare diseases under the leadership of Sant Joan de Déu (SJD) Barcelona Children's Hospital.
