Italy triumphed over the United States in the Olympic women's volleyball final on Sunday, securing their first gold medal with a decisive straight-set victory.
The Italian team, which had dominated the Volleyball Nations League and remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, was led by Paola Egonu, who contributed 22 points and four blocks.
The U.S., the defending champions and a consistent medallist in the last five Olympics, settled for silver, marking their seventh overall medal in women's volleyball.
