Kipyegon Bett, a former world 800 metres bronze medallist from Kenya, passed away at the age of 26 due to kidney and liver failure, as confirmed by his family.
Bett, who had a promising athletic career, faced a four-year ban from the World Athletics Integrity Unit in 2018 after testing positive for the performance-enhancing drug erythropoietin (EPO).
He had been hospitalized in Kericho for kidney issues and, despite being discharged, was readmitted when his condition deteriorated, ultimately leading to his death on Sunday morning.
