FIA Enforces Stricter Misconduct Guidelines for Formula One Drivers

Posted : 24 January 2025

The FIA has introduced new guidelines penalizing offensive language and behavior, including swearing, for Formula One drivers, with fines and points deductions as potential consequences.

The sanctions range from €10,000 to €15,000 for a first offense, escalating for repeated violations, with penalties four times higher for Formula One drivers.

The move follows criticism from drivers like Max Verstappen, who objected to previous changes, arguing that not all swearing is intended to insult.

With the season beginning on March 16, the new rules are set to impact both driver conduct and the sport's culture.
