CAS Doubles Mario Vuskovic's Doping Ban to Four Years
Posted : 27 August 2024
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has extended Hamburg defender Mario Vuskovic's doping suspension from two to four years.
Vuskovic, who tested positive for the prohibited substance EPO during a training session with his German second division team in September 2022, was originally handed a two-year ban by the German league's disciplinary panel.
The updated ruling means the 22-year-old will be unable to compete until November 2026.
CAS noted that Vuskovic did not present any mitigating circumstances to warrant a reduction in the suspension period, leading to the dismissal of his appeal and the upholding of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and Germany's NADA's appeals for a lengthened ban.
