Carlos Sainz Questions FIA Fine After Anthem Delay at Suzuka

Carlos Sainz has criticized the FIA's decision to fine him €20,000—half suspended—for arriving late to the national anthem ceremony before the Suzuka Grand Prix due to a stomach issue, arguing that the penalty was excessive for what he claimed was only a five-second delay.
Speaking at a Bahrain Grand Prix press conference, Sainz accepted responsibility but expressed frustration over the severity of the fine, questioning where the money would go and hoping it supports a good cause.
However, an FIA delegate contested his timing, noting Sainz was seen running down the pitlane during the anthem, as Formula One continues to enforce stricter codes of conduct under Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s leadership.
