Kelsey Brothers Secure $100 Million Deal with Amazon for 'New Heights' Podcast

Posted : 29 August 2024

Travis and Jason Kelsey have struck a significant deal with Amazon's podcast production company Wondery, transferring the exclusive rights to their popular podcast, "New Heights with Jason & Travis Kelce," for approximately $100 million over the next three years. This agreement marks a major milestone for the Kelsey brothers, whose show has become a top sports podcast since its launch in 2022. Wondery will now manage the podcast’s sales and distribution, with plans to expand its reach globally by translating the show into German, Spanish, and Portuguese to attract new audiences in Germany, Mexico, and Brazil.

"New Heights," renowned for its in-depth NFL commentary and interviews, quickly became a fan favorite, topping charts on Apple and Spotify during the NFL season. The podcast’s popularity was further cemented when it won the Podcast of the Year award at the 2024 iHeartPodcast Awards. The Kelsey brothers expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership with Wondery, highlighting their appreciation for the growing fan base that has supported them throughout the show's first two seasons.

In addition to the language expansion, the move to Brazil is strategic, coinciding with the NFL season opener between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers, which will take place in São Paulo. This effort aligns with the NFL’s broader strategy to boost its presence and fan engagement in emerging markets. The Kelsey brothers’ involvement in this global initiative underscores their influence both on and off the field, with Jason Kelsey recently retiring from the NFL and joining ESPN, while Travis Kelsey continues his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, aiming for a historic third consecutive Super Bowl win.

The deal reflects a broader trend in the podcast industry, which has evolved from a niche platform to a lucrative arena for high-profile personalities. With nearly 450,000 active podcasts in the U.S., the top shows command a significant share of the audience, leading to substantial financial opportunities. Major platforms like Amazon and Spotify are capitalizing on this trend by securing exclusive content deals, offering ad-free subscriptions, and exploring additional revenue streams such as video versions and branded content.
