Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur announce engagement secret
Posted : 24 December 2024
Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur, both accomplished tennis players and national No. 1s for Britain and Australia respectively, have announced their engagement after nearly five years of dating. The couple shared the happy news on social media, accompanied by a photo of them smiling, with Boulter showing off her engagement ring. The image appeared to have been taken in Alicante, Spain, a location close to De Minaur’s heart, as he grew up and continues to train there.
The announcement was met with warm congratulations from the tennis world. Among the first to comment were De Minaur's Davis Cup teammate Thanasi Kokkinakis, who humorously noted, "About damn time," and other notable figures like Paula Badosa, Anne Keothavong, and Todd Woodbridge. Fellow British player Jodie Burrage and former tennis star Laura Robson also shared their well-wishes.
Having been in a relationship since early 2020, Boulter and De Minaur have occasionally competed as a duo in mixed doubles, notably at Wimbledon. However, their competitive dynamic will shift next week at the United Cup, where Great Britain and Australia will face each other in group play. With the tournament format including singles and mixed doubles matches, there is a possibility the engaged pair might compete against one another on the court.
The United Cup marks the start of the 2025 tennis season, with the group stage set to begin on December 31. This on-court faceoff would highlight their shared passion for the sport, underscoring the strength of their bond both on and off the court. Their engagement adds a personal milestone to what has already been an exceptional year professionally for both athletes.
Boulter enjoyed a stellar 2024, achieving a career-high world ranking of No. 23 after finishing runner-up at the Hong Kong Open in November. Earlier in the year, she defended her Nottingham Open title and claimed her first WTA 500 trophy in San Diego, where she triumphed just a day after De Minaur’s victory at the Mexico Open.
De Minaur has also had a landmark season, climbing to a career-high ATP ranking of No. 6. His achievements included reaching the quarter-finals of the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open for the first time, as well as securing a spot in the season-ending ATP Finals. These accomplishments further solidified his status as one of the sport's top contenders.
The couple’s engagement is the perfect capstone to an unforgettable year, both professionally and personally. With their upcoming schedules promising more milestones and challenges, Boulter and De Minaur continue to inspire as a tennis power couple.
