The Proprietor of Ilaji FC, Engineer Dotun Sanusi, made a passionate plea on Tuesday for an increase in funding for the Oyo state-owned Shooting Stars SC of Ibadan.
Engineer Dotun Sanusi, a prominent mogaji in Ibadan, urged that more money should be made available for the club given the present condition of the football circle.
The football enthusiast made the appeal in Ibadan shortly after Match Day 8 of the Nigeria Premier Football League between Shooting Stars Football Club and Kano Pillars held at Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, which ended 1-0 in favor of Oluyole Warriors.
The CEO of Ilaji Hotel and Sports Resorts described Shooting Stars as a formidable side that deserves adequate attention.
The Ibadan high chief stressed the need for the government to make running a football club seamless for the management, as the Ibadan Soccer Lords remain one of the traditional clubs in the country.
Reacting to the present economic situation regarding what other state governments are giving Premier League clubs in the country, the Ibadan Royal chief stated that almost every institution has been boosted for financial aid, and Shooting Stars should be a priority in the state.
“Just like how you highlighted the monthly subvention received by Kwara United, which stands at fifty Million Naira (#50,000,000), and Sunshine Stars of Akure is pegged at Sixty Million Naira (#60,000,000), while Rivers United FC is within Hundred Million Naira (#100,000,000), I would like to appeal to the state government that efforts should be made towards the provision of a conducive working environment for the team to actualize their target.
"There is not much to say other than to call on the government to increase their monthly subvention to enable them to achieve their dream.
"This team played very well, and the fans are happy even with a slim victory but with great football artistry. Araoye added that: 'the technical crew should also be assisted with working tools to make the club a true professional side.
"Also, I learned that the technical crew is in need of a traveling bus to navigate from one region to another.
Once this is done, Shooting Stars will regain its lost pride under this present administration," said the business mogul.
He then charged the government to assess the development of the team vis-a-vis the economic climate of the country and accede to their needs.
"When a team is progressing like this, the government should assess it and provide substantial support in terms of motivation to ensure that they sustain the status quo," he concluded.
Shooting Stars are now 3rd on the log and will be on the road against the second spot Lobi Stars, who share the same points but on goal difference at the weekend.
