2023/2024 NPFL reschedule Match Day 1: Rivers earns first league win over Remo Stars

Nigeria's representatives at the CAF Confederation Cup Rivers United FC on Thursday got back to winning ways in the rescheduled 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day with the trouncing of Remo Stars FC 2-0 in Port Harcourt.

The Former NPFL Champions, Pride of Rivers recorded their first win of the new season after recording a 2-0 win over Remo Stars.

Coincidentally, it was former Remo Stars striker, Andy Okpe that did the damage against his former team in the dying minutes of the game after a well taken penalty by Alex Oyowah in the 14th minutes had put his side on the lead.

With the Stanley Eguma-tutored team recording their first victory, it was the first defeat in the new league season for the Gbenga Ogunbodede side.

Remo Stars made just one change to the starting line-up that defeated Rangers Int’l with Qudus Akanni replacing Haruna Hadi.

The game was supposed to be played on the opening day of the season but had to be postponed due to the continental engagement of Rivers United in the CAF Confederations Cup.
