World No. 2 Alexander Zverev expressed his satisfaction with the high level of tennis he has played this year, especially after overcoming doubts surrounding his career following a serious ankle injury in 2022. Zverev, who was sidelined for an extended period after suffering ligament damage at the 2022 French Open, has made an impressive comeback, reclaiming his career-high ranking after his victory at the Paris Masters earlier this month.
The German’s successful season also included winning a Masters 1000 title at the Italian Open in May and reaching the final of the French Open. Reflecting on his achievements, Zverev shared that 2023 marked the first time since his injury that he felt competitive in major tournaments. He expressed satisfaction with his return to form, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding his future after the injury.
As he prepares for the ATP Finals in Turin, Zverev is focused on the challenge ahead, where he will face a tough draw, starting with world No. 9 Andrey Rublev. He acknowledged that playing the best players in the world right from the start would be a tough task but emphasized the importance of staying focused. Zverev also highlighted Rublev’s powerful playing style, emphasizing the need to prevent the Russian from overpowering him in their upcoming match.
