Alexander Zverev continues to dominate at his home tournament in Hamburg's Rothenbaum, defeating Maximilian Marterer in a German round of 77 match with a score of 6-3, 7-5. Zverev spent just a short time on Center Court, and although Marterer managed a rebreak in the second set, Zverev quickly regained control.
After his victory, Zverev received a special gift, a signed jersey from the second division football club Hamburger SV, of which he is a fan. In the quarter-finals, Zverev will face Frenchman Lucas van Assche.
Andrey Rublev had an intense and hard-fought match against Bernabe Zapata Miralles, managing to come out on top with a score of 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7).
Casper Ruud also faced a challenging match, securing a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 victory over Sebastian Baez. Both top seeds advanced to the round of sixteen at the Hamburg European Open.
Rublev and Ruud had previously faced each other in the final of a tournament in Bastad, Sweden, with Rublev emerging as the winner. They flew together to Hamburg, but the late arrival and tough matches drained their nerves and energy. Ruud will now face Christian Garin, while Rublev's next opponent is Daniel Altmaier.
Yannick Hanfmann, the third German round of 16 finalist, will play against China's Zhizhen Zhang on Thursday. The matches promise to be exciting, and the players are determined to put on a great show for the fans.
