In a celebration of Beijing's vibrant industrial history, the draw ceremony took place at the historic Blast Furnace 4 in Shougang Park. The imposing structure served as a dramatic backdrop as top WTT players gathered to discover their matchups. Among those present were world number ones Sun Yingsha and Wang Chuqin, along with Patrick Franziska and Prithika Pavade, who helped facilitate the event.
As the draw unfolded, top seed Wang Chuqin found himself paired against Hiroto Shinozuka in an intriguing all-lefty matchup. This marks their first encounter, but the stakes are significant for Wang, who is aiming for a clean sweep of Men's Singles titles in the WTT Grand Smash events this year, alongside his pursuit of a 10th overall WTT Series title.
In the lower half of the draw, second seed Hugo Calderano is set to face Alexis Lebrun, a familiar rival. Their last meeting at WTT Champions Incheon 2024 saw Calderano extend his winning streak against Lebrun to a 3:0 record, having not lost more than a single game in their previous matchups. With the pressure on, Lebrun will look to leverage lessons from his brother's past experiences to turn the tide in this contest.
On the women’s side, top seed Sun Yingsha is matched against Natalia Bajor, as she seeks her first WTT Grand Smash singles title of the season. With an impressive twelve WTT Series titles already, Sun is eager to add another trophy to her collection this year.
Meanwhile, Singapore Smash 2024 champion Wang Manyu will begin her title defense against wildcard Shi Xunyao, marking their first international showdown. Shi, fresh off winning her first WTT Series singles title at WTT Contender Almaty, will aim to ride her momentum into this matchup. Additionally, fifth seed Miwa Harimoto faces a tough challenge against local wildcard He Zhuojia, known for her unconventional playing style and strong home crowd support, raising the stakes for the young player.
