Posted : 01 August 2023
Kristian Karlsson and Christina Kallberg made an impressive start to their journey towards securing a spot in the Mixed Doubles main draw at WTT Contender Lima 2023 on the first day of qualifying. Their opening match against Alexis Lebrun and Prithika Pavade proved to be a tough challenge, but Karlsson and Kallberg showed their resilience and skill, winning the match 3-1 (11-13, 11-6, 12-10, 11-7).
Despite facing a deficit in the first game and dealing with the highest-ranked player on the table, Alexis Lebrun, the young duo of Lebrun and Pavade displayed their determination and managed to claim the first game in their favor.
However, the setback did not deter the Swedish pair. They kept their spirits high, taking control of the match with a strong display of positivity and aggression. They effectively neutralized Pavade's powerful serves and Lebrun's unpredictable playing style, securing the lead and maintaining it throughout the rest of the match. They only briefly trailed by a single point in the second game.
In a thrilling contest, both right-handers fought hard until the end, emerging victorious and securing a well-deserved win to kick off their campaign in Peru. Karlsson expressed his satisfaction with the match and praised his partner, Christina Kallberg, for their strong performance in Mixed Doubles.
The atmosphere in Lima and the support from the fans seemed to have a positive impact on Karlsson, who is enjoying his first time in Peru. Looking ahead, the Swedish pair will face Gaia Monfardini and John Oyebode in the next round of the qualifiers.
With their confidence and form on display, Karlsson and Kallberg will aim to continue their winning streak and advance further in the competition.
