Posted : 28 June 2023
Cho Daeseong advanced to the fourth round of qualifying at WTT Contender Zagreb 2023 after staging a comeback against Benedek Olah in the Men's Singles.
Despite losing the first two games, Cho adjusted his tactics, focusing on shorter serves and utilizing his backhand flick to force mistakes from Olah. He won the next three games and secured a 3-2 victory, keeping his hopes alive for a place in the main draw.
Cho initially took an early lead in the match but struggled as Olah's aggressive play and powerful shots gave him a 2-0 advantage.
However, Cho's tactical changes allowed him to regain control and prevent Olah from dominating. Despite being ranked lower at World No. 119 compared to Olah's World No. 84, Cho remained composed and sealed the match.
In another upset, Manush Utpalbhai Shah defeated Xue Feii 3-2 in a hard-fought battle. Despite being ranked significantly lower at World No. 147, Shah showcased his skills, particularly with his backhand flick, which caused difficulties for his opponent.
Shah expressed his joy at the victory, highlighting the significance of defeating a Chinese player and ending a long winless streak.
Shah's next challenge is facing Lam Siu Hang, known for his blocking expertise, in a bid to secure a spot in the main draw.
Although Shah will once again face a higher-ranked opponent, his confidence is boosted by his impressive performance in the third round of qualifying.
