Posted : 14 November 2023
The 2023 WTA season has concluded with four different Grand Slam champions, including Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Marketa Vondrousova, and Coco Gauff. Swiatek claimed the world No. 1 spot after winning the WTA Finals, and with Canada winning the Billie Jean King Cup, the season wrapped up. Notable highlights included Swiatek's outstanding performance at the WTA Finals, Aryna Sabalenka's consistent performance reaching the semis in all four Slams, and the competitive doubles scene.
In singles, Iga Swiatek emerged as the Player of the Season, securing her fourth Grand Slam title at the French Open. The Doubles Team of the Season honor went to Vera Zvonareva and Laura Siegemund, who won the WTA Finals. The Match of the Season featured Beatriz Haddad Maia's thrilling win over Sara Sorribes Tormo at the French Open. The anticipated 'Big Three' rivalry didn't materialize as expected, with Sabalenka and Rybakina's encounters providing some exciting contests.
Aryna Sabalenka's near misses at all four Grand Slams stood out as the biggest 'What If' moment. The surprise of the season included Garbine Muguruza stepping away from the game, and the unexpected return of Caroline Wozniacki after three years in retirement. Elina Svitolina's remarkable Wimbledon run, coming back after becoming a mother, earned her the Best Comeback recognition. The Best Young Player award went to Coco Gauff, who had a breakthrough summer and finished the season at No. 3 in the world.
