Within Minutes Of One Another, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz Withdraw from the Monte Carlo Masters

As neither player could compete at their best, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the Monte Carlo Masters.
Later this month, the 22-time Grand Slam singles winner Nadal hopes to make a comeback so he can get ready for the French Open and pursue his goal of winning a 23rd major championship.
Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz both announced their withdrawals from the Monte Carlo Masters within minutes of one another.
It had been anticipated that Nadal will take part in the first clay-court Masters competition on April 10 after missing the Australian Open due to a muscle issue in his left leg.
The 36-year-old has acknowledged that he won't be able to return as soon after dropping out of the top 10 in the ATP rankings for the first time since 2005 as a result of being idle for more than two months.
"Hi everyone, unfortunately, I am still not ready to compete and will miss one of those special tournaments I always love to play," Nadal said in a statement.
"Monte Carlo is and has been a key event in my career, but unfortunately, I will have to miss it again since I am still not ready to compete without the risk of getting injured. I will continue the process of getting ready to come back."
Following his countryman's lead, Alcaraz declared shortly after that he would be unable to compete in Monte Carlo because of "soreness" brought on by the "sunshine swing" of Indian Wells and the Miami Open.
"After two months of competing, I'm happy to be back home but sad that I finished my semi-final match in Miami with soreness," he confirmed on social media.
"After visiting my doctor in Murcia today and being evaluated, I will not be able to go to Monte Carlo to start the tour on the ground."
The 36-year-old was keen to refute that assertion, and he even issued a statement to make it quite clear that he was not making a hasty return.
