Tennis South Africa (TSA) and WIPHOLD have announced the return of the WIPHOLD International tournaments for the third consecutive year. The tournaments will take place from 16 February to 3 March 2025 at TuksTennis, University of Pretoria, in Tshwane. This year marks a significant expansion, as the event will feature both men’s and women’s competitions, whereas previous editions only included women’s tournaments.
The two-week series will consist of combined men’s and women’s events, each offering a $15,000 prize pool, bringing the total prize purse to $60,000 across both weeks. These tournaments provide an excellent opportunity for South Africa’s emerging tennis players to compete against international professionals, earn ranking points, and vie for prize money. It also strengthens the country’s position on the international tennis circuit.
This addition brings the total number of international professional tournaments held in South Africa for both men and women to seven weeks, with other events supported by Curro Holdings. The WIPHOLD Internationals are part of the ITF World Tennis Tour and serve as a vital step for players transitioning from junior tennis to the professional stage, drawing both local talent and international players from across Africa and beyond.
TSA General Manager Anthony Moruthane expressed gratitude for WIPHOLD's continued support, highlighting the tournament's significance in providing a platform for local players to gain experience and boost their rankings. WIPHOLD Co-Founder Louisa Mojela emphasized the tournament’s role in allowing South African players to compete at a high level and build their international careers, underscoring the importance of this sponsorship in fostering the growth of tennis in South Africa.
