Wimbledon 2023 Day 12: Netherlands' Wesley Koolhof and British partner Neal Skupski faced Australians Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler in Men's Doubles Second Round
Posted : 13 July 2023
During the Men's Doubles Second Round match on day eight of The Championships Wimbledon 2023 at All England, Wesley Koolhof from the Netherlands and his partner Neal Skupski from Great Britain faced Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler, both representing Australia.
On Thursday, Neal Skupski achieved his first Wimbledon final alongside his doubles partner Wesley Koolhof. They are the top-seeded pair in the men's doubles category and demonstrated their dominance with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden.
Skupski, who has previously won Wimbledon titles in mixed doubles, is still pursuing success in the men's doubles.
Their next challenge comes from the 15th-seeded duo of Horacio Zeballos and Marcel Granollers, whom they will face on Saturday.
Although Skupski and Koolhof reached the final of the US Open last year, they were unable to secure the title, and they are still aiming for their first Grand Slam championship together.
In the wheelchair doubles category, the British pair of Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett, who have an impressive record with 17 Grand Slam titles, advanced to their seventh Wimbledon final. They defeated Martin de la Puente and Gustavo Fernandez with a score of 7-5, 6-3. Reid and Hewett will face Takuya Miki and Tokito Oda from Japan in the final.
Unfortunately, there was disappointing news for British fans as Lucy Shuker, along with her partner Aniek van Koot, lost 6-3, 6-2 to the second-seeded team of Diede de Groot and Jiske Griffioen in the women's wheelchair doubles.
Additionally, Greg Slade, in the Quad wheelchair doubles, ended his campaign in the semifinals alongside his American partner David Wagner, while Andy Lapthorne and his South African partner Donald Ramphadi also bowed out at the same stage.
