Wimbledon 2023 Day 11: Ons Jabeur defeats Elena Rybakina in Wimbledon quarter-finals
Posted : 12 July 2023
Elena Rybakina, the defending champion, was eliminated in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon as Ons Jabeur avenged her loss in last year's final. In a reversal of their previous encounter twelve months ago, Jabeur, the sixth seed, rallied from a set down to secure a 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-1 victory.
The Tunisian player displayed her resilience by claiming the second set with a crucial break of serve at 5-4, and she continued her dominance in the decider. Jabeur's impressive performance earned her a place in the semi-finals, where she will face Aryna Sabalenka on Thursday.
Sabalenka, the second seed from Belarus, advanced after a commanding 6-2, 6-4 win over Madison Keys. With this victory, Sabalenka maintains her pursuit of a first Wimbledon title and the opportunity to dethrone Iga Swiatek as the world number one.
Rybakina's defeat ensures that a first-time women's singles champion will be crowned at this year's Wimbledon tournament.
