Vaccination Status Causes Novak Djokovic to Withdraw from Indian Wells.
Posted : 05 April 2023
Due to his inability to enter the US, world number one Novak Djokovic has pulled out of this week's Indian Wells Masters competition.
The 35-year-old, a 22-time Grand Slam winner, requested special authorization to enter the US because he is not Covid-19 immunized.
International visitors to the US are required to have certain vaccinations, and paperwork is required until at least 10 April.
Djokovic's lack of immunizations caused him to miss the US Open and Australian Open in 2022.
He was given permission to go to Melbourne in January, when he tied Rafael Nadal's record of 22 Grand Slam victories for men by winning his 10th Australian Open championship and breaking the previous mark.
The US Open and the United States Tennis Association expressed "hope" on Friday that Djokovic will be permitted to compete in this month's Indian Wells and Miami Masters 1,000 tournaments.
On March 6, Indian Wells, one of the most famous tennis events outside of the Grand Slams, will begin.
