The U.S. Open has been full of surprises, and the morning provided a near-upset as Novak Djokovic, with 23 Grand Slam titles, fell behind 2-0 in sets to Serbian compatriot Laszlo Djera. Djokovic, however, rallied back to win 6-4, 6-4, 1-6, 1-6, 3-6 and secure a spot in the eighth finals.
One of the standout stories of the championship is Rinky Hijikata, a 21-year-old Australian who entered the main draw through qualifying. He stunned with a 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 3-6 victory over China's Jin Jian, advancing to the eighth finals and doubling his career earnings in just his second appearance in a Grand Slam main draw.
In the men's tournament, American players have excelled, with Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, and Tommy Paul all reaching the final eight. Caroline Wozniacki, in her comeback since retiring in 2020 and having two children, continued her dream run with a 6-4, 3-6, 1-6 victory over Jennifer Brady.
Coco Goff also secured her spot in the eighth finals by defeating Elise Mertens, while Jelena Ostapenko and Karolina Muchova advanced with their respective victories. Romania's Sorana Kirstea caused a major upset by defeating world No. 4 Elena Rybakina in three sets, 3-6, 7-6 (6), 4-6.
