Two-time Grand Slam winner Simona Halep is accused of violating the doping regulations again
Posted : 20 May 2023
The 31-year-old Romanian has been on probation since October after testing positive at the US Open for a prohibited drug.
She has a distinct charge from the one for which she is currently suspended.
Halep said on Instagram that she feels helpless confronting such hostility and rejects the allegations, claiming instead that she has been "a victim of a contamination."
The biological data of athletes is gathered and compared as part of the athlete biological passport programme in order to detect changes over time that might indicate doping.
The suspension of former world number one Halep last year was brought about by a positive test for roxadustat, an anti-anemia medication that increases the body's production of red blood cells.
She berated the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), which oversees testing in the sport, for how it handled her case, claiming that there had been unnecessarily long delays.
