Tommy Haas celebrates his success at the Terra Wortmann Open

Tommy Haas reflects on his successful past at the Terra Wortmann Open in HalleWestfalen, Germany, where he won the ATP tournament twice in his career.

Haas fondly remembers receiving congratulations from basketball legend Dirk Nowitzki after his victory over Roger Federer in Halle.
 
He considers that moment and his achievements in front of his family at the tournament to be significant highlights in his career, especially considering his previous struggles with injuries.
 
Haas acknowledges that grass courts were not initially his strong suit, but he found success on the surface, including his victories over Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer at the Terra Wortmann Open.
 
He even reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2009. Haas finds it somewhat surreal that he had major successes on grass despite not having high expectations for lawn tournaments early in his career.
 
While attending the Champions Trophy at the 30th Terra Wortmann Open, Haas expresses his pleasure at the current success of German tennis players and their positive impact on German tournaments.

He commends the hard work and dedication of players like Jan-Lennard Struff and expects Alexander Zverev to perform well for the remainder of the season.

Haas himself is now the tournament director for the largest regular ATP competition in Indian Wells, California, and enjoys being involved in tennis in a different capacity.
 
Despite his new role, Haas still holds a special place in his heart for the Terra Wortmann Open. He appreciates the short distances, the great stadium, and the passionate fans at the tournament.


Haas has participated in show matches at the event and received the Excellence Award in 2017. He emphasizes that tennis will always be an important part of his life, and he continues to find joy in the sport.
