Tallon Griekspoor's exceptional form continues to impress as he makes his mark at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle.
After winning the tournament in 's-Hertogenbosch last week, the 26-year-old Dutchman secured another significant victory by defeating defending champion Hubert Hurkacz 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(8). In the quarterfinals, he will face the tournament's third seed, Andrey Rublev.
The grass season has been incredibly successful for Tallon Griekspoor so far, with seven matches played and seven victories achieved. His match against Hubert Hurkacz was no exception.
After a closely contested start, Griekspoor secured the first break of the match, leading 4-3, and went on to confidently win the set 6-3 in just thirty minutes.
However, it appeared that Tallon Griekspoor took a slight break in the second set. Hubert Hurkacz dominated the proceedings, winning the set 6-1 in another thirty-minute battle. The Polish player capitalized on the opportunities presented to him, while Griekspoor struggled with errors.
With the match hanging in the balance, the third set began cautiously as both players focused on playing it safe. But soon, they regained their boldness.
Griekspoor, in particular, took control of the match, although he couldn't convert his chances into a break, despite being closer than Hurkacz. As a result, the match had to be decided in a tie-break.
Once again, Griekspoor took the lead. With a score of 6-3, he had three match points but couldn't convert any of them. Hurkacz also had a match point but failed to capitalize on it. Finally, Griekspoor sealed the victory on his fifth match point, winning the tie-break 10-8.
Tallon Griekspoor's remarkable performance continues, and he remains a force to be reckoned with as he progresses further in the tournament.
