Iga Swiatek made a commanding start to her quest for a fourth French Open title, dominating French qualifier Leolia Jeanjean in the opening round on Monday. The world No. 1 showcased her prowess with a swift 6-1, 6-2 victory in just 61 minutes on Court Philippe Chatrier, setting the stage for a second-round clash against fellow four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.
Expressing her delight at returning to Roland Garros, Swiatek remarked, "I'm really happy to be back. Feel like I'm playing really good tennis so hoping to be here as long as possible." The 22-year-old Polish player aims to make history by becoming the first woman since Justine Henin in 2007 to win three consecutive Roland Garros titles and only the second, after Serena Williams, to clinch the Madrid, Rome, and French Opens in the same year.
Reflecting on her recent form and achievements, Swiatek emphasized the confidence gained from her recent successes but remained focused on the challenges ahead, stating, "These last tournaments give me a lot (of confidence)... But every tournament is a different story, a different chapter, so I'm just trying to focus on the next match." With her dominant performance in the first round, Swiatek has set a strong foundation for her Roland Garros campaign as she aims to continue her winning streak and add to her Grand Slam titles.
