French Open champion Iga Swiatek solidified her dominance in women's tennis by securing her victory at Roland Garros, maintaining her world No. 1 ranking as confirmed by the latest WTA rankings released on Monday. The 23-year-old Polish player's triumph over Jasmine Paolini in the final further extended her lead over Coco Gauff, whom she defeated in the semifinals, by 3,707 points.
Since April 2022, Swiatek has held the top spot in the rankings, except for a brief period in autumn 2023 when Aryna Sabalenka briefly took over, totaling 107 weeks at No. 1. Gauff's strong performance, particularly in the quarterfinals in 2023, propelled her past Sabalenka to claim the second spot, while the Kazakh slipped to third.
Paolini's impressive journey to her maiden Grand Slam final propelled her up eight places to a career-high seventh in the rankings. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva, who faced Paolini in the semifinals, surged 15 places from 38th to 23rd, showcasing her potential in the tennis world.
On the other hand, Brazilian player Beatriz Haddad Maia, who reached the semifinals last year, experienced a setback, dropping six places to No. 20 after exiting in the first round of this year's French Open.
