Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece has expressed his deep connection to the Olympics, emphasizing its special significance due to its Greek origins. He is hopeful of achieving his dream of winning an Olympic medal at the upcoming Paris Games. Greece, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, has a historical legacy in Olympic tennis, having won three medals at the inaugural modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896.
In a recent interview with Stats Perform, the world number 12 shared his excitement and aspirations. "Greece and the Olympic Games fit like bread and butter together," Tsitsipas remarked. "It has been a dream of mine since I started playing tennis to participate in the Olympics. Aiming for a medal is something extraordinary." His journey in tennis has been driven by this dream, and he is determined to realize it at the Paris Games.
The Olympic tennis tournament is set to take place from July 27 to August 4 at Roland Garros, the same venue for the French Open. Tsitsipas has a strong record on these clay courts, having reached the French Open final in 2021 and the quarterfinals in the past two editions. His previous successes at Roland Garros give him confidence and motivation as he prepares for the Olympics.
"Preparing well before the games start in August is something I’m really looking forward to," Tsitsipas said. Reflecting on his past performance at Roland Garros, he added, "Coming back with that confidence and the memories of my previous success allows me to strive towards my goal." In addition to competing in singles, Tsitsipas will also participate in the men's doubles alongside his brother Petros, furthering his commitment to bringing home an Olympic medal.
