Stacey Allaster to Step Down as US Open Tournament Director After 2025

Posted : 12 December 2024

Stacey Allaster, the current US Open tournament director, will step down from her role after the 2025 edition of the Grand Slam and transition into a strategic advisory position within the United States Tennis Association (USTA), according to the organization’s announcement.

Allaster, who previously served as the WTA chairwoman and CEO, joined the USTA in 2016 as its chief executive of professional tennis and became the first woman to lead the US Open as tournament director in 2020.

Expressing her excitement about her transition, Allaster remarked that it was a privilege to close her career in professional tennis with the USTA. She reflected on the growth and innovation the US Open experienced under her leadership, which helped achieve record attendance numbers.

Allaster also emphasized the significance of her role as the first female tournament director, noting that it could inspire more women to take leadership roles in the sport.

Tennis icon Billie Jean King praised Allaster's leadership, highlighting her efforts to push for equality and progress within the sport. King also commended Allaster for her creative ideas, noting that under her direction, the US Open reached a milestone by welcoming over one million fans for the first time this year.

The USTA revealed that Allaster will be involved in selecting her successor, working alongside a team to choose a new tournament director after the 2025 US Open.
