South South Zonal Directors have commended the Zonal Representative on the board of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Ama-Ebi Ebikpolade, for constructing a gigantic table tennis structure in Bayelsa.
The South South Zonal Directors gave the commendations during a courtesy call at his facilities in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.
The South South Zonal Directors were led by the chairman of the South South Directors of Sports, who also serves as the Director of Sports for Bayelsa State, Braveman Wodi, to visit the Table Tennis facility popularly known as the "fortress".
According to them, they are pleased with the progress of the facility so far, expressing hope that when the facility is completed, many youths in the State would be employed and the interest in table tennis would increase in the State.
The South South Zonal Directors hailed Ama-Ebi Ebikpolade for his foresight and drive towards the development of sports in the region, describing the edifice as a world-class facility and pointing out that Bayelsa would soon be the headquarters of Table Tennis in Nigeria.
They equally appreciated Ebikpolade for his untiring passion and show of love to other states in the region by donating table tennis equipment worth millions of naira to the various Table Tennis Associations in the zone.
They also expressed satisfaction as table tennis players in Bayelsa are in the best university through Ebikpolade and his vice-president, Ranami Igrubia.
Earlier in a remark, Zonal Representative on the board of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Ama-Ebi Ebikpolade, who is also chairman of Bayelsa State Table Tennis Association, thanked the Directors of Sports for the unplanned visit.
Ebikpolade, who highlighted the importance of the fortress to the South South region, said the beautiful edifice would be ready for use before the end of this year.
He expressed the need to invest in table tennis as a viable platform to steer youths away from social vices.
He stated that the only way the youths can have something to fall back on after sports is to combine education with sports, stressing that the table tennis association in the last few years has sent its players to Benson Idahosa University, Edo State, for studies in order for them to better their lives after sports.
