Teenager Shang Juncheng made history by becoming the second player from China to claim an ATP Tour singles title, defeating Italy's Lorenzo Musetti in the Chengdu Open final. The 19-year-old triumphed 7-6 (7/4), 6-1, delighting the home crowd and joining Wu Yibing, who won in Dallas last year, as the only Chinese players to win an ATP Tour event.
Shang's victory over the tournament's top seed also marks a milestone as he becomes the first player born in 2005 or later to secure an ATP Tour title. His impressive performance against Musetti, a Wimbledon semifinalist, underscores his potential as one of tennis' rising stars.
However, China missed out on another title at the Hangzhou Open, where local favorite Zhang Zhizhen fell short in a close final against Croatia's Marin Cilic. Zhang lost 7-6 (7/5), 7-6 (7/5), denying the home country a second tennis triumph.
