Scheduling of prime slots more balanced between men and women - Amelie Mauresmo
Posted : 11 June 2023
Amelie Mauresmo, the tournament director of the French Open, has stated that the scheduling of prime slots in the tournament is now more balanced between men's and women's matches.
However, she acknowledges that there is room for improvement in night scheduling. Traditionally, the night-session match is seen as the highlight of the day at Roland Garros.
This year, only one women's match, Aryna Sabalenka's fourth-round match against Sloane Stephens, was scheduled at night, which has drawn criticism from players like Jessica Pegula.
Mauresmo, who had a successful playing career and won two Grand Slam titles, defended the scheduling decisions by pointing to the overall balance in prime slots between men and women.
However, she conceded that more can be done to include women's matches in the night sessions. Mauresmo also mentioned that some high-profile women players have specific requests and preferences regarding night matches.
