Andrey Rublev secured a spot in the final of the Shanghai Masters by defeating Grigor Dimitrov in a straight-sets victory. He will now go head-to-head with Hubert Hurkacz in the ultimate showdown.
In a thrilling encounter, world number seven Rublev managed to save a crucial set point before clinching the fiercely contested first set in a 76-minute battle. He also displayed his resilience by making a comeback from being a break down in the second set, ultimately winning with a scoreline of 7-6 (9-7) 6-3.
Rublev, a 25-year-old Russian, has maintained a flawless record in this event, having won all ten sets he has played.
The final on Sunday will see him facing off against Hurkacz, the Polish world number 17, who secured his place by defeating American Sebastian Korda with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
Rublev will be vying for his second Masters 1000 title of the year, with his previous victory coming in Monte Carlo back in April.
This victory was a major disappointment for the 18th seed, Dimitrov, from Bulgaria, who had previously stunned Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz in the fourth round and was eager to claim his first ATP title in six years.
Earlier in the competition, the 26-year-old Hurkacz showcased his prowess by delivering 14 aces and maintaining an impeccable record of not facing a single break point, ultimately securing a swift victory over the world number 26, Korda, in a match that lasted 77 minutes.
