Rising tennis Star Schwärzler eyes Future and Challenger Tours after junior success
Posted : 27 October 2023
After a challenging start to the year, Schwärzler steadily improved and recently achieved significant success, placing him at 3rd in the junior world rankings. Despite initially planning to aim for the number 1 position this autumn, a team decision led to a change in plans.
Schwärzler intends to play two more future tournaments in Greece before concluding the season. Becoming number 1 would have required additional tournaments in Mexico and the USA, but the focus is on establishing himself in the Future and Challenger Tours.
Schwärzler's top 10 junior ranking grants him eight Challenger wildcards for the following year. He intends to participate in a few junior tournaments, including the Grand Slams, but is eager to progress quickly through the Future and Challenger levels to earn points faster.
He describes his playing style as "fast and aggressive" and has received praise from experienced coach Günter Bresnik. While many see him as Dominic Thiem's successor, Schwärzler remains focused on his goals and views pressure as a positive motivator.
Anticipating the atmosphere in a sold-out Stadthalle, Schwärzler hopes to earn a wildcard opportunity to play there in 2024, recognizing that other talented young players like Lukas Neumayer also deserve such chances.
