Emma Raducanu snapped her four-match losing streak with a commanding straight-sets victory over Maria Sakkari in the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championships. The British star needed just 80 minutes to secure a 6-4, 6-2 win over the world number 29, marking her first triumph since the Australian Open second round in January. The 22-year-old, who had been struggling for form, looked composed and aggressive as she took control from the outset.
Raducanu made a strong start in both sets, breaking Sakkari’s serve in the opening game each time. Although she was broken twice herself, she immediately responded by reclaiming the advantage in the following games.
Reflecting on her performance, the 2021 US Open champion expressed satisfaction with her resilience, acknowledging the challenge of facing a former world number three. She credited her ability to regroup quickly after setbacks as a key factor in her victory.
With her confidence boosted, Raducanu now sets her sights on the second round, where she will face Czech 14th seed Karolina Muchova. Muchova advanced after a routine 6-2, 6-2 win over Suzan Lamens. The upcoming match presents another test for Raducanu, who will look to build on her momentum and continue her return to winning form.
