Porsche Tennis Grand Prix: Emma Raducanu Thrashed In 59 Minutes by Jelena Ostapenko

Posted : 19 April 2023
Emma Raducanu was soundly defeated by former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko in Stuttgart in her first clay-court match of the year.
The Latvian hammered the British number one hard, and the British player ultimately fell 6-2, 6-1, in 59 minutes.

Raducanu will fall in the rankings from her present position of 68 after reaching the quarterfinals of the competition last year.
In the round of 16, Ostapenko will face third-seeded Ons Jabeur of Tunisia.

To prepare for the clay-court swing, Raducanu missed Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup loss to France last week. However, he was comprehensively outplayed after receiving a difficult opening draw.

The 2021 US Open winner lost to her opponent after winning the first game thanks to her opponent's strong striking.
Ostapenko, the 2017 French Open winner, held serve at the start of the second set as Raducanu moved to 0-30 on her serve. However, Ostapenko then won 16 games in a row to take the lead 4-1.

Compared to Raducanu's six victories, the 2017 French Open champion has 26.
Additionally, Paula Badosa upset seventh-seeded Daria Kasatkina of Spain, who is ranked 31st in the world, 6-1, 6-1.

Carlos Alcaraz, the second-ranked man in the world behind Novak Djokovic, who took over the top place after losing in the Miami Open quarterfinals, started his clay-court season at the Barcelona Open by easily defeating Portugal's Joao Sousa 6-3, 6-1.
