Jelena Ostapenko showcased her prowess at the China Open, securing her place in the quarter-finals with a commanding 6-4, 6-2 victory over the No. 4 seed, Jessica Pegula. This triumph marked her second impressive victory over a top-five opponent this season.

Although Ostapenko faced an early setback, conceding an early break in the first set, she swiftly rebounded, wresting control of the match and clinching the set with a pivotal break. Her next opponent will be determined by the outcome of the match between Liudmila Samsonova and Marta Kostyuk.

In a clash against Jessica Pegula, the No. 4 seed, Jelena Ostapenko displayed her exceptional skills and determination. She emerged victorious with a final score of 6-4, 6-2, securing a coveted spot in the China Open quarter-finals. Notably, this marked her second victory over Pegula, with their first encounter dating back to 2015 in Quebec City.

Despite an early setback where Ostapenko found herself trailing after being broken, she quickly regained her footing and assumed control of the match. Her dominance from the baseline became increasingly evident as the contest unfolded. Ostapenko's resilience shone through as she rallied back from a 3-2 deficit in the first set, ultimately clinching the set after a fierce battle that saw her saving multiple game points and capitalizing on Pegula's double fault on set point.

The second set saw Ostapenko start with newfound confidence, swiftly establishing a lead that paved the way for her victory. The match concluded in 78 minutes, with Pegula seemingly grappling with the intensity of the encounter, resulting in 12 unforced errors and a first-serve percentage of just 51%.

Reflecting on her performance, Ostapenko expressed her satisfaction with her play in China and her confidence boost following the US Open. She highlighted the importance of close matches throughout the year, noting that her preparation and persistence have paid off. She acknowledged the challenges posed by the slow court surface at the China Open and emphasized her strategic approach of opening up points and capitalizing on opportunities.

With her victory secured, Jelena Ostapenko eagerly anticipates her next opponent, which will be determined by the outcome of the match between Russian Liudmila Samsonova and Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk in the quarter-finals.
