Ons Jabeur, the 17th-ranked player from Tunisia, has withdrawn from the US Open due to a persistent shoulder injury, according to tournament officials. Jabeur, who was a finalist at the 2022 US Open where she finished as the runner-up to Iga Swiatek, has been struggling with fitness issues this season.
The former world No. 2 missed the Olympics to focus on her health and subsequently pulled out of the Washington WTA tournament at the start of the US Open hardcourt season. Her recent performances included a first-round loss to Naomi Osaka in Toronto and a withdrawal from the Cincinnati Open.
With Jabeur's withdrawal, Elise Mertens of Belgium will take her place in the US Open draw. Mertens' spot will be filled by a qualifier, ensuring that another player will get a chance to compete in the main draw.
