Novak Djokovic announced on Wednesday that he will not participate in the Paris Masters, where he has claimed victory seven times, marking a potential conclusion to a tumultuous season. In an Instagram post, the 37-year-old expressed his disappointment, stating, "Unfortunately, I won't be playing the Paris Masters this year." He reflected on his fond memories of the tournament, hoping to return next year and apologizing to fans who were eager to see him compete.
As the defending champion in Paris, Djokovic has an impressive record of 40 Masters titles alongside his 24 Grand Slam titles. However, his 2024 season has been challenging, with only one title to show for his efforts—an emotional Olympic gold medal won in Paris in August.
He currently sits at 99 career titles, having seen his status as the Grand Slam king challenged this year, particularly by Jannik Sinner, who captured both the Australian and US Open titles and took over the world number one ranking.
This season has also been marked by significant defeats for Djokovic, including a loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final and being dethroned as French Open champion. For the first time since 2017, he will conclude the year without a Grand Slam title.
Despite these setbacks, Djokovic remains in contention for the ATP Finals in Turin next month, currently ranking sixth in the race for one of the eight spots in the prestigious event. The Paris Masters is scheduled to take place from October 28 to November 3.
