Novak Djokovic's bid for another French Open title has come to an abrupt end as he withdraws from his quarterfinal match against Casper Ruud due to a right knee injury sustained in his fourth-round victory. This setback not only halts his title defense but also results in him relinquishing the No. 1 ranking.
Following an MRI scan and medical tests on Tuesday, it was confirmed that Djokovic suffered a torn medial meniscus in his right knee. The injury occurred during his marathon five-set win over Francisco Cerundolo on Monday, where Djokovic played with determination despite the discomfort.
Despite his hopes of competing in the quarterfinal, Djokovic's injury forced him to make the difficult decision to withdraw from the tournament. With his sights now set on Wimbledon and the Olympic Games, Djokovic's absence means Casper Ruud advances to the semifinals, awaiting the winner of Alexander Zverev and Alex de Minaur's quarterfinal clash.
