Smarting from a strong outing at the last WTT Contender in Lagos, Nigeria's table tennis sensation has declared his intention to achieve a podium finish at the coming 2024 Paris Olympics.
Omotayo declared that he would transition from being a contender in the table tennis event to becoming a force at the Olympics.
“The last time, I was a contender, even though I was having tears of joy while I was playing. This time around, it's time for business.”
“My second appearance at the Olympics means a lot to me,” he shared.
“It's not easy to qualify from Africa, which was very difficult many years ago. We have so many good players in Africa now, and I was fortunate to qualify.
“The ranking system affected me about a year ago. My ranking dropped significantly, and I wasn't sure if I would be part of the second pick for Team Nigeria.
“Thankfully, I reclaimed my spot and qualified for the Rwanda qualifiers. This opportunity means a lot to me.”
Having played in the French league for the past two to three years, Omotayo feels well-prepared for the atmosphere in Paris.
“I'm used to the people there in France. They love table tennis,” he explained.
“I'll have a lot of French friends turning up to support me. My expectations are very high. I'm going there to give my best, fight for my name, and prove that I have what it takes.”
